# Flying Blue Promo Rewards: discounts on award tickets

Last updated: 8 October 2026 - 10 min read - [View sources](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-promo-rewards#sources>)

By [Remco de Graaf](<https://skystatus.pro/about>) Founder of SkyStatus, Flying Blue member since 2005, currently Ultimate. Also Managing Director and co-owner at Reshift Digital. Founder of Zoom.nl (120,000 users) and Zoom Academy (80,000 paying students). Experience includes at least 15 mileage runs and visits to at least 60 countries.

If you have been hoarding Flying Blue miles, they go furthest the moment the right Promo Reward lands. Every month Air France and KLM put a rotating set of destinations on sale, and booking on a promo versus off it can mean tens of thousands of miles for the same seat. The catch is that the good ones move fast and the calendar is never the same twice. This guide shows how the discounts work, which routes are worth waiting for, and how to be ready the day your destination appears.

## What are Promo Rewards?

**Promo Rewards** are monthly offers from [Flying Blue](<https://www.flyingblue.com/en/spend/flights/rewards>) that let you book award tickets for **up to 25% fewer miles** than the regular rate. Every month, new destinations are selected on Air France and KLM flights. They are the cheapest way to [redeem miles](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/how-to-spend-flying-blue-miles>) on AF/KLM flights and one of the biggest advantages of the Flying Blue program. Since 8 September 2026, the Promo price has been the price of the Light fare.

## How do Promo Rewards work?

Since June 2018, Flying Blue uses **[dynamic pricing](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-business-model>)** for award tickets: the price in miles varies by flight, date and cabin class. There is no longer a fixed award chart. However, every route has a minimum rate, and Promo Rewards offer a discount on that minimum rate.

The concept is straightforward:

1. Flying Blue selects a number of destinations each month
2. On those destinations, a discount of **up to 25%** applies on the minimum rate
3. The discount applies to **Air France and KLM flights** (not partner airlines)
4. On long-haul routes the promo covers flights to and from Europe, including one connecting flight within Europe (outbound or return) via Paris or Amsterdam ([official Flying Blue Rewards page](<https://www.flyingblue.com/en/spend/flights/rewards?country=FR>)). The October 2026 selection also listed five routes from the United States, such as New York to Mauritius and Chicago to Shanghai
5. The travel period varies per offer, but is usually 1-6 months in the future. Book in October 2026 and you can travel until 31 March 2027
6. All Flying Blue members with enough miles can book

**Important:** the up to 25% discount applies to the _minimum rate_, not the dynamic price. On popular dates the actual price may be higher, even with Promo Rewards. Always search flexibly on dates to find the lowest price. Use our [miles calculator](<https://skystatus.pro/calculator>) to compare the miles price against the cash fare for your route.

Promo Rewards appear on the [Flying Blue Rewards page](<https://www.flyingblue.com/en/spend/flights/rewards>). You can see which destinations are available each month. Then book via [klm.com](<https://www.klm.com/>) or [airfrance.com](<https://www.airfrance.com/>) using the "Book with miles" option.

![How Flying Blue Promo Rewards work: 4-step flow showing destination selection, a normal Business minimum of 60,000 miles to North America, 25% discount applied, final price 45,000 miles, with a savings table for Europe, North America and long-haul destinations at the Light fare](/guide/images/promo-rewards-mechanics-en-202610.svg?v=960b4a7929a421ef)

How Promo Rewards work: a 25% discount on the minimum Light fare saves you 15,000 miles on Business to North America and 21,250 miles to long-haul destinations.

## Pricing: how much do you save?

The savings depend on the route and cabin class. Below you can see the minimum rates for **one-way** on Air France/KLM at the Light fare and the Promo Reward prices at 25% discount (the maximum discount):

| Route | Cabin | Normal minimum | Promo (25% off) | Savings |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Within Europe | Economy | 8,000 miles | 6,000 miles | 2,000 miles |
| Within Europe | Business | 20,000 miles | 15,000 miles | 5,000 miles |
| North America | Economy | 25,000 miles | 18,750 miles | 6,250 miles |
| North America | Premium Economy | 40,000 miles | 30,000 miles | 10,000 miles |
| **North America** | **Business** | **60,000 miles** | **45,000 miles** | **15,000 miles** |
| Long-haul | Economy | 30,000 miles | 22,500 miles | 7,500 miles |
| Long-haul | Premium Economy | 50,000 miles | 37,500 miles | 12,500 miles |
| Long-haul | Business | 85,000 miles | 63,750 miles | 21,250 miles |

Prices per one-way at the maximum 25% discount, at the Light fare. Standard and Flex cost more miles. Long-haul here means Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. Displayed starting prices vary by route even within the same cabin. In the October 2026 selection, checked on 6 October 2026, Economy started at 18,750 miles to North America, for example Boston and Toronto, and at 22,500 miles to Asia, for example Hong Kong and Singapore. Business started at 45,000 miles to Seattle and Mexico City and at 63,750 miles to Bogota and Cape Town. Within Europe, Economy started at 6,000 miles and Business at 15,000. Flying Blue displays the lowest possible price, subject to availability. Source: [flyingblue.com](<https://www.flyingblue.com/en/spend/flights/rewards>).

Example: intercontinental Business Class round trip

Suppose you book Amsterdam - New York round trip in Business Class with Promo Rewards (25% discount):

- Regular minimum rate: 2 x 60,000 = **120,000 miles**
- Promo Reward rate: 2 x 45,000 = **90,000 miles**
- Savings: **30,000 miles** (EUR 360 at EUR 0.012/mile)

That is 30,000 miles you do not need to earn or buy. At [EUR 0.012/mile](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-miles-value>), that is a saving of EUR 360.

### Value per mile with Promo Rewards

The value of a Promo Reward depends on the cash price of the ticket. If a Business Class round trip Amsterdam - New York normally costs EUR 4,000 and you book for 90,000 miles + approximately EUR 400 in taxes and surcharges:

![SkyStatus Redemptions, travelled awards: AMS-YYZ Business, 180,000 miles, €5,714, 3.17 ct per mile, above a Lastminute-upgrade at 0.70 ct.](/guide/images/promo-rewards-awards-value-per-mile-202610.webp?v=39f69a03e9389b74)

My travelled awards, sorted by value per mile. A Business award between Amsterdam and Toronto returned 3.17 ct per mile, more than four times the 0.70 ct of an upgrade.

- Value: (EUR 4,000 - EUR 400) / 90,000 = **EUR 0.04 per mile**
- That is more than three times the average [miles value of EUR 0.012](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-miles-value>)

This makes Promo Rewards in Business Class one of the best [sweet spots](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-sweet-spots>) in the Flying Blue program.

### Measured: how often members actually paid the Promo price

The Promo price is the lowest rate on offer, but members paid it less often than the normal minimum. Of the award journeys SkyStatus members booked between Europe and North America (Mexico included) since February 2025, **17.2%** cost exactly a Promo Reward price. Together, the normal minimum and the Promo price accounted for 59.3%, so most of those journeys were at the normal minimum. To Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean islands, Promo prices were rarer still: 4.3% of journeys since June 2025, against 26.8% at exactly the 85,000-mile Business minimum.

_SkyStatus member data, October 2026, based on 297 journeys by 75 members to North America and 280 journeys by 68 members to long-haul destinations, counted per passenger, from their own Flying Blue statements. A child fare is also 25% off, so a passenger at the Promo price travelling with someone who paid the normal minimum in the same booking and cabin counts as a child fare, not as a Promo Reward. Our members are self-selected optimizers, not a random sample of Flying Blue members._

## Step by step: booking a Promo Reward

How to book a Promo Reward

1. **Check the destinations:** go to flyingblue.com/en/spend/flights/rewards on the 1st of the month. You can see the discounted price and travel period per destination.
2. **Search on klm.com or airfrance.com:** go to the booking module, choose "Book with miles", select your destination and search **one-way** with 1 passenger. Leave the date field empty for a calendar overview.
3. **Compare dates:** the Promo price does not appear on every day. Search flexibly and look for the cheapest dates. Midweek flights (Tuesday, Wednesday) are almost always cheaper.
4. **Verify the price:** confirm that you see the Promo rate and not the regular dynamic price. The Promo price is never higher than the advertised discounted rate.
5. **Book immediately:** popular Business Class routes sell out quickly. Do not hesitate too long.

**Always search one-way:** Flying Blue prices awards per direction. By searching one-way you can book outbound and return on different dates, in different cabins or even on different routes. Read more in our [guide on award availability](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-award-availability>).

**Changes and cancellations:** since 8 September 2026 a Promo Reward has been a Light ticket, and Light includes no changes or refunds. Platinum and Ultimate members can change and cancel Light for free. Unsure about your dates? Look at Standard (change or cancel for EUR 70) or Flex (free) as well. Both cost more miles than the Promo price.

## Strategy: grabbing the best Promo Rewards

### 1\. Be quick

Promo Rewards in Business Class on popular routes (New York, Bangkok, Tokyo) often sell out within days. The first days after publication have the most availability. Set a reminder for the 1st of the month.

Members' statements show how much the first week matters. Of their Promo Reward bookings to North America and long-haul destinations, **43.5%** were made in the first seven days of the month, which make up only about a quarter of it (46 bookings by 33 members, October 2026).

### 2\. Keep miles ready

You need enough miles in your account to book immediately. If you consistently fall short on miles, consider:

- A Flying Blue Amex card for miles on everyday spending (1-1.5 miles per euro)
- [Buying miles](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/should-you-buy-flying-blue-miles>) via Subscribe to Miles (EUR 0.011/mile on Complete and Complete+)
- [Earning miles](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/how-to-earn-flying-blue-miles>) via credit card partners that transfer to Flying Blue

### 3\. Be flexible with destination

Destinations change every month. If you have no preference for a specific destination, scan the entire list. Sometimes surprising routes appear with excellent value. You can also wait until your dream destination shows up and then act fast.

### 4\. Combine with a stopover

Although Promo Rewards themselves do not allow stopovers, you can combine smartly: book the outbound as a Promo Reward and the return as a regular award ticket with a [free stopover](<https://www.flyingblue.com/en/>) in Amsterdam or Paris. This way you benefit from both advantages.

### 5\. Compare with partner airlines

Promo Rewards only apply to AF/KLM flights. On some routes, [partner airlines](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-sweet-spots>) are cheaper, even without a promotion. Air Europa to South America starts from 43,000 miles with just EUR 39 in surcharges. Always compare before you book.

Example: Promo Reward vs. partner airline

**Route:** Amsterdam - Buenos Aires, Business Class, one-way

- **KLM Promo Reward (25% off):** 63,750 miles + ~EUR 250 surcharges
- **Air Europa (via Madrid):** 43,000 miles + ~EUR 39 surcharges
- **Conclusion:** Air Europa wins here on both surcharges and miles. Still compare both, because partner prices change too.

## Exclusive Promo Rewards (Flying Blue Extra)

In addition to the regular Promo Rewards for all members, Flying Blue offers an **Exclusive** variant only for [Flying Blue Extra](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-extra>) subscribers (Essential or Extended). The Exclusive Promo Rewards include extra routes that are not available to regular members.

| Feature | Regular Promo Rewards | Exclusive Promo Rewards |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Access | All Flying Blue members | Flying Blue Extra subscribers only |
| Routes | Monthly selection | Monthly selection + extra routes |
| Discount | up to 25% off minimum rate | up to 25% off minimum rate |
| Cost | Free | EUR 379/year (Essential) or EUR 699/year (Extended) |

**[Is Flying Blue Extra worth it for Promo Rewards?](<https://skystatus.pro/tools/fb-extra>)** That depends heavily on which extra routes are offered. In many months the selection is limited. The regular Promo Rewards are free and already offer excellent value. Read our [critical analysis of Flying Blue Extra](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-subscription>) before spending EUR 379+.

![SkyStatus Flying Blue Extra, The three plans compared: Essential net value minus €194, Extended minus €329, both marked Not worth it.](/guide/images/promo-rewards-extra-plans-202610.webp?v=b9d795ee880b41b5)

Flying Blue Extra for my account with I book Promo Rewards ticked. Promo Reward flights do not get the Extended award discount, and then neither plan pays for itself: Essential falls €194 a year short, Extended €329.

## Restrictions and conditions

Promo Rewards have several important restrictions you should know about:

- **AF/KLM flights only:** Promo Rewards only apply to flights with an Air France (AF) or KLM (KL) flight number. [Partner airlines](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-partner-airlines>) are excluded.
- **Standard bookings only:** valid for one-way and round trip. Multi-city, stopover and open-jaw bookings are **not** possible with Promo Rewards.
- **Limited travel period:** each promotion has a specific travel period, usually 1-6 months in the future. You cannot book outside this period.
- **Limited availability:** not every day and not every flight falls under the promotion. The discount only applies as long as Promo seats are available.
- **Dynamic pricing above minimum:** on busy days the price may be higher than the Promo minimum. The up to 25% discount guarantees the minimum, not the actual price on every day.
- **Surcharges still apply:** taxes and surcharges are always paid in cash, regardless of the miles discount.

**Child discount:** children aged 2-11 get **25% off** the award rate in miles. This also applies on top of Promo Rewards. Infants (0-2 years) fly free on your lap (only taxes and surcharges). Source: flyingblue.com.

**Since 8 September 2026**, award tickets on flights operated by Air France and KLM have come in three fare options: [Light, Standard and Flex](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-light-standard-flex>). The Promo price is the price of the Light fare. Light includes no checked bag in Economy and Premium Economy and cannot be changed or refunded. Platinum and Ultimate members can change and cancel Light for free. Baggage benefits from your status still apply. If you choose Standard or Flex, you pay more miles than the Promo price. Tickets issued before 8 September keep their original conditions.

## When are Promo Rewards NOT the best choice?

Promo Rewards are not always the optimal use of your miles. Consider alternatives in these situations:

### If you want a stopover

Flying Blue allows a [free stopover](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-stopover>) of 24 hours to 1 year on one-way awards. This must be booked by phone and works on regular award tickets, not on Promo Rewards. If you want a stopover in Amsterdam or Paris, book a regular award ticket.

### If a partner airline is cheaper

On certain routes, [partner airlines](<https://skystatus.pro/guide/flying-blue-sweet-spots>) are structurally cheaper, even without a Promo discount:

- **Air Europa:** Business Class to South America from 43,000 miles, just EUR 39 surcharges
- **SAS:** within Europe from 5,000 miles, EUR 29 surcharges
- **Kenya Airways:** within Africa from 5,000 miles

### If you need flexible booking

Promo Rewards have a fixed travel period, and as Light tickets they cannot be changed or refunded unless you are Platinum or Ultimate. Need flexibility? A regular award ticket is better, because you can book any date up to 11 months ahead and choose Standard or Flex.

### If the difference is minimal

For Economy flights within Europe, the saving is 2,000 miles (EUR 24 at EUR 0.012/mile). If that means you are less flexible, it may not be worth it. For Business to North America, the saving of 15,000 miles (EUR 180) is substantial, and to long-haul destinations it is 21,250 miles (EUR 255).
