Flying Blue lounge access: all options by status level
You are standing in a crowded terminal, watching other travelers disappear behind a frosted glass door, and you want to know whether your Flying Blue card opens it too. The honest answer is that access depends entirely on how you arrived. Your status tier, your ticket, or the card in your wallet. Each is a different door with different rules. This guide walks through every route into a Flying Blue lounge so you know which one is yours and what it actually gets you.
Lounge access with Flying Blue
Lounge access is one of the most sought-after benefits in airline loyalty programs. With Flying Blue, free lounge access starts at Gold status (180 XP), granting entry to 750+ SkyTeam lounges worldwide. There are also other routes to the lounge: via a Business Class ticket, Flying Blue Extra, a day pass, or the Amex Platinum Card.

Gold: the gateway to the lounge
Gold status (180 XP) unlocks the most valuable travel benefit for many flyers: free access to 750+ SkyTeam lounges worldwide. The precise rule (skyteam.com, verified 10 July 2026): access requires a same-day international SkyTeam flight, or a same-day transfer between two SkyTeam flights, and applies at departure and during transfers, never on arrival. US-Caribbean routes count as domestic under this rule.
What Gold includes
- 750+ lounges: SkyTeam lounges worldwide when departing on a same-day international SkyTeam flight, including KLM Crown Lounges, Air France lounges, and partner lounges (since April 2025, also 70+ selected lounges on domestic SkyTeam flights)
- 1 guest: you may bring one guest traveling on the same flight
- All cabin classes: even if you fly Economy, you can enter the lounge
- SkyPriority: priority at check-in, boarding, baggage, and at the gate
Value of Gold lounge access
Suppose you fly intercontinental 8 times per year (4 return trips) and visit the lounge each time with a guest:
- 8 lounge visits x EUR 65 (day pass) = EUR 520
- 8 guest visits x EUR 65 = EUR 520
- Total savings: EUR 1,040 per year
That alone exceeds the cost of the Flying Blue Amex Platinum Card (EUR 660/year), which also gives 60 XP per year toward Gold.
How to reach Gold
Gold requires 180 XP within a qualification year. The fastest routes:
- Amex Platinum Card + flights: 60 XP from the card + 120 XP from flights (roughly 6 intercontinental return flights in Economy)
- Amex Gold Card + flights: 30 XP from the card + 150 XP from flights
- Flights only: 180 XP (roughly 9 intercontinental return flights in Economy, or fewer in Business Class)

Platinum and Ultimate: extra benefits
Platinum (300 XP)
Platinum offers the same SkyTeam lounge access as Gold, plus:
- Access to the Air France La Premiere Lounge at Paris CDG (one of the best lounges in the world)
- Access to the KLM Crown Lounge 52 (the premium variant at Schiphol)
- 2 guests in some lounges (depending on lounge rules)
Ultimate (900 UXP)
Ultimate is the highest level, requiring 900 UXP to achieve. In addition to all Platinum benefits, Ultimate offers:
- Access to all lounges, including exclusive Ultimate facilities
- Personal service and a dedicated contact person
- Personalized benefits that may vary per member
Business Class: always lounge access
Passengers with a Business Class ticket on Air France, KLM, or a SkyTeam partner automatically have lounge access, regardless of their Flying Blue status. This applies on the day of the flight.
- KLM Business: access to KLM Crown Lounges
- Air France Business: access to Air France lounges
- SkyTeam partners: access to the relevant partner lounge
SkyTeam policy changes (2025)
On April 1, 2025, SkyTeam announced three major policy changes to lounge access rules. These changes affect all SkyTeam Elite Plus members, including Flying Blue Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate. Here is what changed and what it means in practice. All rules below were re-verified against skyteam.com on 10 July 2026.
1. Three-hour pre-departure limit
Many SkyTeam lounges now enforce a maximum of 3 hours before departure. If your flight is more than 3 hours away, you may be denied entry.
- FB elites at AFKL lounges: exempt. You can enter regardless of departure time (confirmed by Flying Blue)
- FB elites at partner lounges: not exempt. The 3-hour rule applies, as reported by multiple travelers at lounges in Barcelona, Mexico City, and other airports
- Business Class passengers at AFKL lounges: exempt
- Connecting passengers at AFKL transit lounges: same-day or 24-hour access at transit points
2. Same-flight guest rule
Previously, FB elites could bring a guest traveling on any SkyTeam flight. Since April 2025, your guest must be booked on the same flight as you. This is now enforced for FB elites too.
- What changed: a Flying Blue Platinum member used to invite someone flying on a different KLM flight. That is no longer allowed
- Enforcement: the Flying Blue website was updated to reflect this rule. Enforcement at the lounge desk varies, with some agents still allowing it and others strictly checking boarding passes
3. Domestic lounge access (new benefit)
SkyTeam introduced domestic lounge access for Elite Plus members at select airports. This is a new benefit: previously, SkyTeam lounge access was limited to international flights.
- How it works: participating airlines opt in their lounges. The list is expanding in phases (Phase 1 from April 2025, Phase 2 from June 2025). As of July 2026 it covers 70+ selected lounges, listed in the Lounge Finder
- Airlines that opted out: Delta (SkyClubs are excluded) and Aerolineas Argentinas
- Airlines participating: Air France, KLM, Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air, and others. Check the SkyTeam Lounge Finder for the current list
4. Delta SkyClub access for FB elites
Delta SkyClubs have their own rules that differ from other SkyTeam lounges:
- International itinerary: FB Gold/Platinum/Ultimate can access Delta SkyClubs, even in Economy class
- Domestic US flights: no access, Delta has not opted into the domestic access program
- US-Caribbean: SkyTeam classifies this as domestic, so no SkyClub access
- Canada-US: international, SkyClub access granted
- Delta’s own 2024 restrictions: the SkyClub access cuts that Delta announced in 2024 target its own SkyMiles elites. Per skyteam.com, "SkyTeam Elite Plus members of other member programs are not impacted", so Flying Blue Gold/Platinum/Ultimate keep their access
- Basic Economy: since 1 January 2024, Delta SkyClubs exclude passengers on Basic Economy tickets, regardless of status
In practice, Delta lounge staff may not always be familiar with Flying Blue elite benefits. Several travelers report having to explain the rules and show the SkyTeam website. Patience and a screenshot of the rules can help.
Flight eligibility for SkyTeam lounge access
For a flight to qualify as a "SkyTeam flight" for lounge access, it must be both operated by and marketed by a SkyTeam member airline. Codeshares with non-SkyTeam airlines (for example, a WestJet segment sold by Delta) do not grant SkyTeam lounge access.
Buying lounge access (without status)
No Gold status and no Business Class ticket? You can still visit a lounge:
Day pass at the door or online
- KLM Crown Lounge (Schiphol): approximately EUR 60-75 per visit, depending on the lounge
- Air France lounge (CDG): approximately EUR 65 per visit
- Book online: often cheaper than at the door. Book via klm.com or airfrance.com
Silver discount
Silver members get a 25% discount on the purchase price of lounge access. This must be booked at least 25 hours before departure via the Flying Blue website. In practice, you save EUR 15-19 per visit.
Flying Blue Extra: lounge passes
Flying Blue Extra includes lounge passes as part of the subscription:
| Plan | Price/year | Lounge passes | Pass value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | EUR 379 | 2 passes | ~EUR 130 (2 x EUR 65) |
| Extended | EUR 699 | 4 passes | ~EUR 260 (4 x EUR 65) |
The passes are valid in Air France and KLM lounges at Paris CDG and Amsterdam Schiphol.
Amex and Priority Pass
The Flying Blue Amex cards do not offer direct lounge access. But they help indirectly:
Flying Blue Amex Platinum Card (EUR 55/month)
- 60 XP per year: brings you closer to Gold (180 XP) for free SkyTeam lounge access
- 1-1.5 miles per euro: miles on daily spending, which you can use to book Business Class awards (= lounge access)
- Welcome bonus up to 70,000 miles: enough for an intercontinental Business Class return with lounge access included
Flying Blue Amex Gold Card (EUR 16.50/month)
- 30 XP per year: helps toward Gold, but you need more flights
- 1 mile per euro: earn miles on spending
- Welcome bonus up to 25,000 miles: a good start for your first award
Lounges at Amsterdam Schiphol
Schiphol has several lounges relevant to Flying Blue travelers:
| Lounge | Location | Access via |
|---|---|---|
| KLM Crown Lounge 25 | Schengen, Level 2 near D59-87 gates | Gold+, Business Class, day pass |
| KLM Crown Lounge 52 | Non-Schengen, between pier E and F | Gold+ (premium variant), Business Class |
| KLM Crown Lounge 82 | Non-Schengen, E-pier | Gold+, Business Class, day pass |
The Crown Lounge 52 on Holland Boulevard is the newest and most premium KLM lounge. It offers a higher level of service with a la carte dishes, a more extensive bar, and a quieter work area.
Track your XP toward Gold and lounge access
Keep track of how much XP you have and when you reach Gold for free SkyTeam lounges.
Start tracking for freeWhich lounge at which airport: the Air France and KLM hub finder
Knowing you have access is half the answer. The other half is which lounge to walk to. Air France and KLM operate roughly 30 lounges of their own: six at Paris-CDG, two Crown Lounges at Amsterdam Schiphol, one in Bordeaux and about 20 across their international network. Here is the finder for the hubs travelers actually search for, based on the official Air France-KLM lounge guide (April 2026 edition). Access rules are identical everywhere: free for Gold, Platinum, Ultimate, SkyTeam Elite Plus and Business Class passengers on a Standard or Flex fare.
Air France lounge JFK (New York, Terminal 1)
Air France's own lounge at New York-JFK sits in Terminal 1, open 07:00 to 21:00. It serves the Paris-bound departures bank, so expect it busiest in the late afternoon and evening.
Air France lounge Boston (Terminal E)
The Boston Logan lounge in Terminal E runs 08:00 to 22:30, one of the longest opening windows in the US network, covering both the afternoon and late-evening Paris departures.
Air France lounge LAX (Tom Bradley International Terminal)
At Los Angeles the lounge sits in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, open 09:00 to 23:30. Evening Paris departures are the peak, so arrive early.
Air France lounges Paris-CDG (2E, 2F, 2G)
The mothership: six lounges across Terminal 2E (halls K, L and M), 2F for Schengen flights and 2G for regional departures. Hall K is the flagship after its April 2025 renovation: three levels, 2,800 m², 638 seats, Clarins treatments and Ducasse Paris menu concepts. Hall M closes early (17:00), so board from the K or L lounge in the evening. Above them all sits the La Première lounge, which is cabin-gated: no status opens that door.
Air France and KLM lounges Houston (IAH, Terminal D)
Houston is unique: the only airport in the world with an Air France lounge and a KLM Crown Lounge side by side, both in Terminal D. The Crown Lounge runs long hours (06:00 to 21:00), the Air France lounge a short afternoon window (12:00 to 17:00). Best pick: whichever is open. With both open, pick the shorter queue. Your access is identical in both.
Air France lounge Washington Dulles (Terminal A)
The Dulles lounge in Terminal A is open 07:30 to 21:00, covering the daily Paris rotations.
Air France lounge San Francisco (SFO, International Terminal A)
At San Francisco the lounge sits in International Terminal A, open 10:00 to 20:30.
KLM Crown Lounges Amsterdam (25 and 52)
Schiphol has two Crown Lounges, both open 04:45 to 22:00: Crown Lounge 25 for Schengen flights near the D gates, and Crown Lounge 52 for non-Schengen departures at Holland Boulevard. Lounge 52 is the showpiece: showers, sleep cabins, a terrace, live cooking and the Blue bar upstairs (premium drinks payable in euros or Miles). Details per lounge in the Schiphol section below.
Chicago, Miami and other US airports
Honest answer, because almost nobody gives it: Air France operates no lounge of its own at Chicago O'Hare or Miami. Eligible passengers get a partner or contract lounge instead. Check your boarding pass or the SkyTeam Lounge Finder for the assigned lounge on your departure day.

Practical tips
1. Arrive early
Lounges can be full, especially during the morning rush. Arrive at least 2 hours before your flight to enjoy the lounge.
2. Check the guest policy
With Gold you may bring 1 guest, but since April 2025 your guest must be booked on the same flight as you (previously any SkyTeam flight was enough). Children under 2 are often free. Check the specific rules of the lounge, as they may vary by location. See the 2025 policy changes section for full details.
3. Use the SkyTeam Lounge Finder
Not sure which lounge is available at your airport? Use the SkyTeam Lounge Finder to search all 750+ lounges.
4. Showers and sleeping areas
Many intercontinental lounges offer showers, and some have sleeping areas. Ideal after a long flight or during a long layover. Ask at the reception desk about availability.
5. Do not photograph other guests
Privacy is important in the lounge. Do not take photos that show other guests. Most lounges have house rules about this.
Frequently asked questions
Do you get lounge access with Silver?
Not for free. Silver gives a 25% discount on the purchase of lounge access (book at least 25 hours in advance). Free lounge access starts at Gold (180 XP), with access to 750+ SkyTeam lounges and one guest.
Which lounges can you visit with Gold?
With Gold you have access to all 750+ SkyTeam lounges worldwide on international flights with SkyTeam airlines. This includes KLM Crown Lounges, Air France lounges, and lounges of partners like Delta, Korean Air, and China Airlines. You may bring 1 guest.
Do you also get lounge access with a Business Class award ticket?
Yes. Every passenger with a Business Class ticket has lounge access, even if it is an award ticket (booked with miles). This applies regardless of your Flying Blue status.
Does the Flying Blue Amex give lounge access?
The Flying Blue Amex cards do not give direct lounge access. They help indirectly: the Platinum Card gives 60 XP per year toward Gold (= free SkyTeam lounges), and the welcome bonus can provide enough miles for a Business Class award with lounge access.
How much does a day pass for the KLM Crown Lounge cost?
Approximately EUR 60-75, depending on the lounge and when you purchase. Booking online via klm.com is often cheaper than at the door. Silver members get a 25% discount.
Can I enter the lounge when flying European routes with Gold?
At Schiphol, Gold members can visit the KLM Crown Lounges even on European flights. At some foreign airports, lounge rules apply only to intercontinental flights. Check the rules for the specific lounge via the SkyTeam Lounge Finder.
What is the 3-hour rule for SkyTeam lounges?
Since April 2025, many SkyTeam lounges enforce a 3-hour pre-departure limit: you can only enter within 3 hours of your flight. Flying Blue Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate members are exempt at Air France and KLM lounges, but not at partner lounges (Korean Air, Aeromexico, Vietnam Airlines, etc.). Business Class passengers at AFKL lounges are also exempt.
Can my guest be on a different flight?
No, not anymore. Since April 2025, your guest must be booked on the same flight as you. Previously, Flying Blue elites could bring a guest traveling on any SkyTeam flight. The Flying Blue website has been updated to reflect this change. Enforcement varies by lounge, but the official policy is clear.
Can I use the KLM Crown Lounge at Schiphol on arrival?
No. Since June 2025, arrival lounge access at Schiphol has been removed for Flying Blue Gold and Platinum members. This was previously a popular benefit for freshening up after a long flight. KLM staff have confirmed the change applies to all status levels.
Do Flying Blue elites get Delta SkyClub access?
Yes, on international itineraries. FB Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate members can access Delta SkyClubs when flying an international route, even in Economy class. However, Delta has not opted into the domestic lounge access program, so SkyClubs are not available on domestic US flights. Note that US-Caribbean flights are classified as domestic by SkyTeam.
Do I get lounge access on a domestic flight with Gold?
At select airports, yes. Since April 2025, SkyTeam introduced domestic lounge access at participating airlines. Air France, KLM, Vietnam Airlines, and Korean Air have opted in. Delta SkyClubs and Aerolineas Argentinas have not. Check the SkyTeam Lounge Finder for the current list of participating lounges.
At which US airports does Air France have its own lounge?
Six: New York-JFK (Terminal 1), Boston (Terminal E), Washington Dulles (Terminal A), Houston (Terminal D, next to a KLM Crown Lounge), Los Angeles (Tom Bradley) and San Francisco (International Terminal A). At Chicago O'Hare and Miami, Air France uses partner lounges instead. See the hub finder.
