Can you get a status match with Flying Blue?
Status match at Flying Blue - yes, it exists
Flying Blue does indeed offer a status match program, run via flyingblue.statusmatch.com. If you have elite status with another airline, you can have it matched to Flying Blue Silver, Gold or Platinum.
How does it work?
The program is managed by StatusMatch.com in partnership with Flying Blue. The application is fully online:
- Go to flyingblue.statusmatch.com
- Enter your name, Flying Blue email address and membership number
- Select your country of residence
- You will see the costs and conditions before payment
- After approval, your new status appears within 5 business days on your account
Key conditions
- 1 status match per person - you can only do it once
- Valid for 12 months - after that you must requalify via the regular XP thresholds (Silver 100 XP, Gold 180 XP, Platinum 300 XP)
- Only specific countries and airlines - not every country and not every airline qualifies
- Application fee - varies per country and desired status level
- Valid ID required - passport, driver's license or national ID
- No physical status card - your status is digitally visible in your Flying Blue account
Which countries and costs?
The offer changes regularly. StatusMatch.com opens and closes campaigns by region. Some examples of active and recent offers:
- United Kingdom (British Airways Club status holders): Silver GBP 79, Gold GBP 149, Platinum GBP 249
- Singapore and Thailand: Silver USD 99, Gold USD 299, Platinum USD 399
- Italy (ITA Volare / Miles & More status): Silver EUR 89, Gold EUR 199, Platinum EUR 349
Other regions (Canada, China/Hong Kong, India, UAE) had offers before but have since ended. Always check the current page for the latest offers.
Note: the Netherlands is not always open
The status match program is not permanently available for all countries. The Netherlands is not listed among active countries at the time of writing. However, the offer can change at any time, so it is worth keeping an eye on the page.
Alternative: build status yourself
If a status match is not available for your region, the fastest route to Flying Blue status is a combination of flying and a credit card with XP bonus:
- The Flying Blue American Express Platinum Card gives 60 XP per year, plus 1.5 miles per euro
- The Flying Blue American Express Gold Card gives 30 XP per year, plus 1 mile per euro
- Combine that with a few strategic flights and you have Silver (100 XP) or Gold (180 XP) sooner than you think
Use the SkyStatus Trip Planner to calculate which flights give the most XP per euro.
